My grandfather gave me a Model 88 in .308 a couple of years ago. The thing is in near perfect condition the finish and stock are both in fantastic condition, especially considering that it was built in 1958. The only problem is that when working the lever sometimes it gets stuck and requires more force than usual to get it to cycle completely.

My Model 88 is a post-64 chambered in 308 Winchester. I wanted an 88 for years before I finally found this one. The rifle just "fits" me quite well. The accuracy is pleasing and the trigger is acceptable, apparently better that some other 88s. I found a great old 4X Weaver (El Paso) and this classic rig is now complete. This 88 has found a home.

A local gun store has a nice .308 in carbine length but are on the high end for price. I lust over this custom 88 in .358 but can't justify the asking price. That is a pretty rifle! The only Model 88 carbines that I own are chambered in 284 and the only reason that I own them is because they are chambered in 284.

It's .308---has Pachmyr decellerator recoil pad, 2x-7x compact Leupold and an extra magazine in a leather pouch that attaches to the sling. I think a very good set-up. He has taken axis deer, wild hogs, bobcat and a truckload of whitetail with it.

Winchester 88 re-sassembly, WHOOWE. A friend hired me to clean 15 guns for him. One was a nice lever action 88 Winchester in .308 that was gummed up with 50 years of wd-40 sprayings and other trash. Leaves a yellowish/brownish film on parts that is tough as glue to get off. Some rust was inside too.
